Specifying Interoperability for an Advanced Smart City Management Platform

UK utility Street Lighting Engineering & Procurement TALQ
A road stretching into the distance, lined with traffic lights and street lights, guiding vehicles along their way

Context

SSE, previously known as Southern Scottish Energy, holds a significant presence as a utility company, managing over 550,000 streetlights across 11 councils in the UK with an in-house designed control system. SEE was looking to enhance its solution with advanced smart city features and enhanced interoperability with other existing systems on the market.

Challenge

SSE recognized the growing importance of interoperability and its role in modern outdoor lighting projects. To address this, SSE engaged Kurrant for a project with the goal of achieving TALQ v2 compliance for their Smart City Platform and Streetlighting CMS product, while enabling the effective collaboration with 3rd party systems.

Deliverables & Outcomes

To address this challenge, our services encompassed the following deliverables:
  • Comprehensive Architecture Design: we crafted a detailed functional and technical architecture design to ensure seamless integration of SSE’s Smart City Platform and Streetlighting CMS product
  • RFP Drafting: we carefully drafted a Request for Proposal (RFP) enriched with detailed specifications, promoting a transparent procurement process
  • Bidders’ Proposals Evaluation Process: we provided the methodology to evaluate the bidders.
