The city of San José, California has teamed up with Umojo for a pilot project to enhance curb management, supported by a U.S. DOT Smart Grant. This project focuses on digitizing and optimizing curb space to improve urban traffic flow and mobility. Umojo’s NexCity Curb Management solution will serve as the technological backbone, utilizing AI-driven cameras and sensor technology to monitor curb usage across 800 spaces. Starting June 1, the technology will scan the city’s curbs, creating a digital map and integrating existing city infrastructure data according to The Curb Data Specification (CDS) standard. This data will help identify problem areas and develop strategies for efficient curb use. The pilot aims to pave the way for a citywide rollout of advanced curb monitoring and management solutions, contributing to San José’s goals of reducing carbon emissions and enhancing transportation efficiency.
