Kuwait’s telecom company stc has secured a contract to supply 500,000 smart electricity meters to the Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy (MEW) for the second phase of a major infrastructure project. The initiative, set to be completed by mid-2025, is valued at approximately $50 million. This ambitious project, among the largest in Kuwait’s energy and ICT sectors, also includes supplying essential components like circuit breakers and transformers.

The smart meters will provide automated energy management by sending usage readings and issuing monthly bills, helping avoid late payments. This technology will also offer real-time data on system failures and detailed analytics, enabling the MEW to identify energy-saving opportunities. This rollout is crucial for advancing Kuwait’s Vision 2035, promoting efficient energy consumption and sustainability. The first phase involved around 200,000 meters, and the second phase extends this with an additional 200,000 smart water meters, although the latter’s tender award details are not specified. This public-private partnership underscores stc’s commitment to supporting Kuwait’s digital transformation and infrastructure modernization.
