A joint project by Regionetz, NetAachen, and regio iT aims to establish a comprehensive LoRaWAN network across the Aachen region by the end of 2025. This initiative addresses the growing needs of the digital energy sector by enabling efficient monitoring and management of energy networks and other infrastructures. The project involves significant infrastructure investments, including the installation of gateways on municipal buildings, with the first setup completed in Monschau in May 2024.
The network will support various use cases, such as cross-sectoral energy meter data collection and water meter readings, which are crucial for energy management systems like regio iT’s “e2watch.”
The project’s comprehensive scale includes collaboration with local governments and third parties, offering benefits for both citizens and businesses. The network’s scalable nature allows the integration of thousands of devices, ensuring broad application potential in smart city initiatives and beyond.
