Spain-based ACCIONA, alongside partners Jardine Engineering Corporation Limited and China State Construction Engineering Corporation, has been selected by Hong Kong’s Water Supplies Department to design and implement a digital twin for the Tseung Kwan O desalination plant. The system that claim to be the first of its kind to cover all stages of the desalination process is designed to optimize the plant’s operation and maintenance by forecasting production processes, detecting membrane fouling in real time, and improving energy efficiency.
The Tseung Kwan O desalination plant, with a capacity of 135,000 m³/day, supplies water to approximately 850,000 people. The digital twin aims to enhance the reliability and quality of water supplies in Hong Kong. The plant, operational for only a few months, is managed under a 15-year design, construction, operation, and maintenance contract awarded to ACCIONA and its partners.
