The Immokalee Water & Sewer District in Collier County, Florida, has launched a $3.5 million digital modernization project in partnership with Xylem snd Core & Main. Funded through state appropriations from Florida, the project will transform the district’s water management systems, integrating potable water distribution, wastewater collection, and treatment operations into a unified digital platform.
The initiative includes the deployment of over 7,200 ally® residential water meters and the Sensus FlexNet® communication network, which will enable remote meter management, leak detection, and seamless communication between the utility and its meters. The system will also improve emergency response during hurricane season, allowing for remote meter shutoff and system re-pressurization.
To enhance operational resilience, the district will leverage the Xylem Vue platform, which integrates real-time data from multiple sources, including the communication network, Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems, and weather inputs. This comprehensive data management should enable efficient decision-making and improve the district’s ability to adapt to daily operational changes.
Core & Main, a distributor of water and wastewater products, will provide on-the-ground expertise throughout the transition. The district, which serves over 24,000 residents year-round, experiences a surge in water usage during the six-month harvest season, making local knowledge essential to the project’s success.
By advancing its digital infrastructure, the Immokalee Water & Sewer District aims to enhance service quality, improve leak detection, reduce operational costs, and ensure greater transparency for its customers while maintaining affordable water rates.
