Lancaster City Council has bolstered its air quality monitoring with the addition of 14 new EarthSense Zephyr sensors, funded by the Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs. The city already operates an automatic monitoring station; however, the new sensors will enhance the existing program by pinpointing air pollution peaks. This effort, alongside the MappAir pollution model, will help track pollutants like NO2, NO, O3, PM1,  PM10 and PM2.5, revealing pollution hotspots and trends. The initiative also includes a public portal to encourage community involvement in reducing pollution exposure.
