NIPSCO Begins Natural Gas Metering Upgrade in Indiana

NIPSCO has announced the implementation of Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) technology for both gas and electric meters, enhancing metering systems to improve energy delivery, operational efficiencies, and customer service. Approximately 870,000 gas meters will be upgraded with AMI modules from July 2024 to the end of 2026, offering customers better visibility into gas usage and on-demand readings. Gas meters will be upgraded with AMI technology by adding a communications module, enabling automated and remote data collection and transmission. This project follows a mass deployment of 490,000 electric meters that started in May and will continue through 2027.
