Arizona Public Service (APS) is deploying 30 AI-powered wildfire detection cameras from Pano AI across the state by the end of June. The high-resolution cameras, installed on towers and hilltops, should spot smoke up to 10 miles away.
Using artificial intelligence, the system analyzes potential smoke sightings and filters out false alarms like dust or fog before alerting emergency dispatch centers. The technology has already aided responders, including during February’s Brady Fire near Prescott, where it provided real-time location data and fire movement tracking.
APS emphasizes that early detection helps protect both power infrastructure and communities as wildfires grow more severe in Arizona. Pano AI’s cameras are part of a broader effort to accelerate wildfire response through technology.
