The AIgua-Alicante Inteligente Agua project, led by the Alicante Provincial Council, will receive over €8.2 million in European Union funding through the PERTE program. This initiative, in collaboration with specialized companies Ciclagua, SAV, and Proaguas, targets the complete digitalization of the water cycle across 70 municipalities in Alicante, impacting more than 252,000 residents. Among these, 59 municipalities have fewer than 5,000 residents, and 15 face risks of depopulation.

Focused on efficient water cycle management from collection to discharge, the project emphasizes reuse of regenerated water. Key components include 6,500 LoRaWAN household meters, 118 remote-controlled flow meters, 26 automated intakes, web tools for transparency, and software updates. The project will also implement ten drought and two flood emergency plans, 13 health plans, 50 leak management studies, and collaboration with EPSAR for infrastructure management.

This investment enhances connectivity across the province, allowing innovative applications and supporting small municipalities through remote management. By fostering a circular economy and environmental stewardship, the project aims to improve Alicante’s water efficiency, with substantial water savings and advancements in wastewater treatment.
