Badger Meter has announced the acquisition of SmartCover® Systems from XPV Water Partners for $185 million. The transaction, funded through available cash, integrates SmartCover’s real-time monitoring solutions for sewer lines and lift stations into Badger Meter’s BlueEdge suite of water management applications.
SmartCover, which generates approximately $35 million in annual revenue, specializes in sensors, software, and services that monitor sewer systems 24/7. Its technology helps utilities detect and prevent sewer overflows, reduce operational costs, and minimize environmental impacts. Additionally, SmartCover’s solutions assist in identifying inflow and infiltration issues, detecting intrusions, and mitigating harmful sewer gases. The company also provides hardware and software for lift station monitoring and control.
The acquisition aligns with Badger Meter’s strategy to enhance its water management offerings, particularly in addressing challenges posed by aging infrastructure and extreme weather events. SmartCover’s expertise in stormwater management complements Badger Meter’s existing capabilities, with potential for growth in North America and other regional markets.
