The City of Brampton has partnered with Genetec to implement a new public safety initiative aimed at reducing crime and improving community security. As part of the project, 200 Genetec AutoVu SharpV License Plate Recognition (LPR) cameras will be installed at key intersections across the city.

These cameras, which will not be used for issuing traffic tickets, are designed to assist law enforcement in solving crimes and monitoring vehicle-related incidents. By capturing details such as license plate numbers, vehicle make, color, and type, the system will provide critical data to support investigations.

The LPR cameras will be integrated with Genetec Security Center, a platform that combines vehicle information with 360-degree street camera footage from Axis Communications. This integration will enhance situational awareness and enable faster responses to incidents. Additionally, the Genetec Clearance digital evidence management system will allow secure sharing of video evidence and LPR data with law enforcement agencies.

The initiative emphasizes data privacy and security, with all operations complying with municipal, provincial, and federal privacy laws. Access to the system will be restricted to authorized personnel, and all user activities will be logged to maintain data integrity.
