The city of Conway, South Carolina, is installing five new river sensors to improve real-time flood monitoring in flood-prone neighborhoods. The $26,000 investment includes equipment from North Carolina-based Green Stream Technologies, which specializes in flood and weather early warning systems.

The sensors will be placed at strategic points along the Waccamaw River and Crabtree Swamp, including the Riverwalk, Kingston Lake railroad trestle, and multiple locations along Crabtree Swamp.

Data from the devices will feed into an online dashboard, enabling residents and city staff to better anticipate and respond to rising waters. While the city aims to supplement, not replace, existing U.S. Geological Survey gauges, officials say these added sensors will address critical gaps in coverage.
