Eastside Utility District Modernizes Water Network with Itron’s Smart Water Solutions

Eastside Utility District (EUD), serving Tennessee, is enhancing its water network with Itron’s Smart Water Solutions, including a cellular Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) network and the Temetra cloud-based data collection and management system. The deployment upgrades 25,000 mechanical meters to ultrasonic smart meters with Itron’s cellular communication modules, providing two-way connectivity and enabling near real-time data collection.

EUD’s partnership with United Systems & Software and Jacobs Engineering ensures seamless integration of Itron’s technology, improving efficiency by detecting leaks and providing remote firmware updates, eliminating costly field visits. The cellular AMI network supports dynamic data monitoring through an online platform, offering greater visibility and control. EUD has reduced operational costs, increased annual water revenues by over 10%, and enhanced transparency with customers through hourly interval data accessible via the WaterSmart Customer Portal. This digital transformation empowers customers to better manage their water usage, promoting conservation and cost savings.
