The City of Helsingborg, Sweden, is partnering with Itron to deploy smart streetlight technology as part of the city’s sustainability efforts. The project will use Itron’s CityEdge platform to modernize streetlight operations and improve energy efficiency.

Helsingborg, with a population of over 150,000, plans to install 670 Itron Networked Lighting Controllers (NLCs) in the first phase of upgrading its 30,000 streetlights. The system would enable remote monitoring, adaptive dimming based on time and traffic, and automated outage alerts for maintenance teams.

The initiative aligns with Nordic Innovation’s goal of making the Nordic region the world’s most sustainable by 2030. The CityEdge platform also supports additional smart city applications, including traffic management and environmental monitoring.

Deployment is expected to begin in early 2025.
