An 800‑meter AI-enabled traffic monitoring system has been activated on the M1–M7 motorway near Budaörs, developed by Magyar Közút Nonprofit Zrt. and the Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME) as part of the Hungarian‑Austrian Eureka Central System collaboration.
The installation features 39 sensors, including LiDAR, radar, thermal, and optical cameras, streaming up to 1.5 GB/s via fiber optics to a Budapest-based data center for real-time analysis by a supercomputer.
BME’s team calibrated and trained the AI infrastructure, while Bosch is scheduled to validate the digital twin through drone-based sensor testing.
The pilot will soon be extended to 1.5 km, supporting Hungary’s move toward BIM-integrated road projects and paving the way for a nationwide intelligent network aimed at boosting safety, efficiency, and autonomous vehicle testing.
