Intellihub, a company specializing in smart metering across Australia and New Zealand, has announced its proposal to acquire Powermetric Metering, a smart metering provider currently owned by Shell Energy Operations. The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) commenced an informal review of this proposed acquisition on.

Both companies operate extensively within the National Energy Market, offering smart metering services across all states and, to a lesser extent, in Western Australia. Intellihub provides multi-utility services, including electricity and water metering, asset management, installation, and the day-to-day operations of smart utility infrastructure. Their clientele spans mass market residential, small to medium businesses, commercial and industrial sectors, as well as embedded network customers.

Powermetric primarily supplies smart metering services to commercial and industrial customers, with a more limited presence in the mass market and embedded network sectors.

This acquisition aligns with Intellihub’s strategic expansion efforts. In February 2024, the company acquired the smart metering assets from Downer’s Spotless Advanced Metering business, further solidifying its position in the smart metering and energy data intelligence sector.
