Liverpool Expands On-Street EV Charging Network to Boost Accessibility

Liverpool City Council has announced plans to install 300 new on-street electric vehicle (EV) charging points, targeting areas without off-street parking. This initiative, led by London-based charging provider char.gy, will expand the city’s existing network to 670 charge points.

The new chargers, integrated into existing street lampposts, offer up to 5kW charging speeds and are powered entirely by renewable energy. The rollout aims to support residents in key residential and commercial areas, particularly those unable to install private chargers.

This move aligns with Liverpool’s 2030 net zero action plan, which seeks to reduce transport-related carbon emissions. The council’s focus on expanding EV infrastructure is designed to make electric vehicles a viable option for all residents, regardless of parking availability.

The project follows resident feedback and underscores the city’s commitment to sustainability and equitable access to green technology.
