The Lleida City Council has awarded a €31.3 million contract to a joint venture between Edison Next and Romero Polo to modernize the city’s public lighting infrastructure.

The project, set to begin construction following mid-June, includes the replacement of 14,545 lighting points with LED fixtures, significantly reducing energy use and CO₂ emissions. Over 6,000 lights will be equipped with remote management systems, alongside the installation of 200 environmental sensors and 25 solar-powered streetlights.

Supported by an €8.6 million grant from the Institute for Energy Diversification and Saving (IDAE), the initiative forms part of Lleida’s broader strategy to enhance urban energy efficiency and align with smart city standards. The contract also covers long-term maintenance of the entire lighting network, with full operations starting in January under the consortium name UTE LleidaLlum.
