National Grid Partners, the venture capital and innovation division of global utility leader National Grid, has pledged $100 million to invest in artificial intelligence (AI) startups focused on transforming the energy sector. The funding aims to enhance grid efficiency, reduce emissions, and strengthen energy infrastructure to meet growing demands and climate goals.

Since its establishment in 2018, National Grid Partners has invested over $150 million in 18 AI-driven energy companies, representing 37% of its portfolio. The latest investment includes Amperon, a provider of AI-powered energy forecasting and analytics solutions that help utilities manage demand and improve grid reliability.

The initiative supports the development of a more resilient and dynamic energy grid, addressing challenges such as rising energy consumption, renewable energy integration, and the electrification of transportation and heating systems. National Grid Partners, based in Silicon Valley, focuses on technologies that streamline operations, enhance safety, and accelerate the deployment of clean energy solutions.

Notable portfolio companies include AiDASH, which uses AI and satellite data to reduce outages, and Exodigo, which employs AI to optimize underground infrastructure projects. Other investments, such as Sensat and Urbint, focus on digital twins for infrastructure visualization and AI-driven risk management to improve worker safety and project efficiency.

This $100 million commitment underscores National Grid Partners’ strategy to leverage AI for operational improvements and industry-wide innovation, ensuring a sustainable and efficient energy future.
