National Grid is set to launch its two-year deployment of advanced smart meters in Western New York starting in January, building on its previous rollout of 450,000 smart meters across central and eastern New York. This initiative focuses on replacing aging meters and deploying AMI 2.0 meters across the region through 2027.
The new AMI 2.0 meters, powered by Landis+Gyr’s Revelo platform, is expected to provide capabilities such as real-time data collection, remote connect/disconnect functionality, load disaggregation, and grid edge intelligence. This technology should enable precise energy management, supports distributed energy resource integration, and facilitates a wide range of grid modernization applications.
National Grid plans to install a total of 1.7 million electric meters and 640,000 gas modules in Upstate New York and 1.1 million electric meters in Massachusetts as part of its AMI 2.0 strategy.
