New Project (Full-Scale)NorwayNorgesnettItronEnergy
Published on April 3, 2025
Norwegian utility Norgesnett has partnered with Itron to deploy its Grid Edge Intelligence technology in the Nordics, marking the region’s first grid edge computing implementation. The project will use Itron’s distributed intelligence-enabled smart meters to enhance grid visibility and efficiency.
As part of its grid modernization plan, Norgesnett will install 10,000 smart endpoints in the first phase, starting in early 2026. The system should enable real-time monitoring, remote updates, and improved management of distributed energy resources like solar power and electric vehicles.
Norway’s power grid, which relies heavily on renewables, faces growing demand and sustainability challenges. The Itron solution aims to support grid stability, reduce outages, and provide consumers with energy usage insights.
The initiative aligns with the Nordic Council of Ministers’ goal to make the region the most sustainable and integrated by 2030. The technology will also help utilities adapt to evolving energy needs while optimizing grid performance.
