Project Green Light: Google’s AI Drive to Cut Urban Emissions

Google Research has opened application for cities to join its Project Green Light, an initiative that employs AI to optimize traffic light timings in urban areas, aiming to reduce emissions caused by frequent stops. By utilizing AI and Google Maps data, the project aims to enhances traffic light coordination, potentially reducing stops by 30% and emissions by 10%. Currently, the system is operational in 70 intersections across 12 global cities, impacting up to 30M car rides monthly. According to google the system comes at no cost for the city.
