Reggio Emilia has implemented a smart parking guidance system using Urbiotica’s IoT sensors in collaboration with Parkit. The system aims to optimize parking management and improve urban mobility by reducing unnecessary traffic caused by drivers searching for spaces.

A total of 36 U-Spot 2.0 sensors have been installed, offering real-time data on parking availability via digital signage and mobile apps. The sensors operate autonomously with LoRaWAN and NB-IoT connectivity. Urbiotica claims they require minimal maintenance while maintaining over 99% detection accuracy.

The system is expected to decrease traffic congestion and lower emissions by directing drivers to available spots efficiently. City officials should also be able monitor parking usage through Urbiotica’s cloud platform for data-driven decision-making.
