The city of Reno will roll out advanced gunfire detection and surveillance technology in early 2025, covering one square mile of downtown. Backed by $450,000 from the American Rescue Plan Act, the initiative includes a three-year contract with Flock Safety and over 40 surveillance cameras, focusing on license plate recognition.

Reno Police Chief Kathryn Nance highlighted the system’s ability to pinpoint gunfire locations within 90 feet and alert law enforcement in under 60 seconds. Unlike Sparks, which uses ShotSpotter, Reno’s setup offers 24/7 coverage and advanced sound differentiation to aid in solving major crimes.
