Rhizome, a climate resilience planning platform for power grids, has secured $6.5 million in an oversubscribed seed funding round led by Base10 Partners. The funding will support the expansion of its AI-driven platform, product development, and team growth to help utilities mitigate risks from extreme weather.

Launched in 2023, Rhizome uses AI to analyze climate risks and grid vulnerabilities, enabling utilities to prioritize resilience investments. The company’s tools, including gridADAPT, gridFIRM, and gridCAVA, assist in long-term infrastructure planning, wildfire mitigation, and climate vulnerability assessments.

With extreme weather causing increasing damage—including 27 billion-dollar disasters in the U.S. in 2024—utilities face rising costs and infrastructure challenges. Rhizome’s solutions aim to optimize resilience planning as utility capital expenditures reach record levels.

The funding round included participation from MCJ, CLAI, Convective Capital, El Cap, Streetlife Ventures, Stepchange, and Everywhere. Rhizome currently works with utilities such as Avangrid, Seattle City Light, and Vermont Electric Cooperative, alongside partners like the University of Connecticut.

The company plans to expand its geographic reach and enhance its platform to address growing climate threats to power grids.
