Portuguese smart-infrastructure company Omniflow has deployed one of the country’s largest smart-pole systems along a five-kilometre stretch of the riverside path between Alverca and Sobralinho do Passeio in the municipality of Vila Franca de Xira.
The installation comprises 243 “Omniled” intelligent luminaires and six solar-powered “Omnibench” benches. Each unit offers integrated Wi-Fi, optical and thermal cameras, audio communication systems, and fibre-optic/backhaul data links, and is powered by solar and wind energy stored in batteries for uninterrupted operation.
The project was delivered in partnership with the municipality and covers zones under the jurisdiction of the Força Aérea Portuguesa, necessitating enhanced security and privacy measures.
Although the investment cost has not been publicly disclosed, the installation is aimed at reducing energy consumption, operational costs and carbon emissions while improving urban lighting, connectivity and safety.
