A2A has finalized the acquisition of a 90% stake in Duereti from Enel’s E-distribuzione, significantly expanding its electricity distribution footprint in Milan and Brescia. This move boosts A2A’s managed electricity meters by 70% and adds 17,000km of network in these provinces.
The €1.2 billion ($1.24 billion) deal, signed in March 2024 and effective December 31, 2024, aligns with A2A’s strategy to support Italy’s energy transition. CEO Renato Mazzoncini highlighted plans for over €4 billion ($4.1 billion) in additional investments in distribution by 2035, with the Group’s regulatory asset base projected to reach €3.4 billion ($3.5 billion) by then. He also noted the importance of scaling infrastructure to support electrification and AI development, citing expected European investments in electricity networks of €580 billion ($600.9 billion) by 2030, with €60 billion ($62.2 billion) dedicated to Italy.
Enel, which retains a 10% stake in Duereti, emphasized the transaction’s role in its 2024-2026 Strategic Plan, which includes €12.2 billion ($12.6 billion) of investments in Italy’s grids for its 31 million end users.
