Amsterdam will remove over 1,200 Chinese-made cameras due to concerns about espionage and human rights. The decision was influenced by a 2022 news report by NOS highlighting the presence of Hikvision and Dahua cameras in over fifty Dutch municipalities. The General Intelligence and Security Service has warned about China’s “offensive cyber program” targeting the Netherlands. The cameras, some located in sensitive areas, will be replaced within five years to avoid high costs. The Amsterdam city council, led by Suleyman Aslami’s motion, supports finding alternatives to these Chinese systems.
