Austin City Council has approved the use of the Pano AI system by Austin Energy to enhance wildfire detection and response. This system incorporates ultra-high-definition, 360-degree cameras equipped with artificial intelligence to detect wildfires. Covering not just Austin but extending into surrounding counties, this tool aims to bolster the safety of communities and the reliability of the electric system, especially with the increasing threat of wildfires due to climate change. Austin Energy has committed to a five-year contract, budgeting $500,000 annually for this technology.
