Bagnolet Pilots AI Cameras to Curb Illegal Waste Dump

The city of Bagnolet, in Seine-Saint-Denis, has launched a €99,000 pilot program to tackle illegal dumping of bulky waste by deploying four mobile surveillance cameras.

The system, supplied by Vizzia, uses artificial intelligence to detect and record unauthorized disposal of items such as furniture and appliances. Recorded offenses are transmitted to municipal officers authorized to issue fines, which can reach up to €15,000 for individuals and €150,000 for businesses under French environmental law.

The cameras will be rotated to new locations every six months as part of the city’s broader effort to reduce street pollution.
