Boston is seeking innovative solutions for waste and recycling ahead of its 2027 contract expirations. The city’s Public Works Department has issued a Request for Information (RFI) to gather input from startups, businesses, academic institutions, consultants, and non-profits on ideas across four main areas: collection and disposal, waste prevention and recycling, data and analytics, and policy and behavior change.
Boston aims to rethink its waste management approach while advancing its long-term zero-waste goals, which include expanding successful programs such as curbside organics collection. The RFI also seeks technologies for route optimization, fleet electrification, and data-driven decision-making.
The city’s RFI is open until March 3, 2025, providing an opportunity for innovators to share solutions and potentially shape future requests for proposals. However, participation does not guarantee future contracts.
