BT is Transforming Street Cabinets into EV Chargers across the UK

New Project (Full-Scale)UKBTEV Charging

Published on January 10, 2024

British Telecom Group, or BT, is set to launch in the upcoming weeks a pilot program to convert around 60,000 old street cabinets traditionally used to store broadband and phone cabling into EV chargers across the UK. With the initiative, led by BT’s digital incubation arm Etc, the aim would be to address the scarcity of EV charging infrastructure and contribute to government sustainability goals. Despite the project bringing hope to EV owners, the project already faced its first setback, as it was supposed to kick off in autumn 2023, but that didn’t happen and now the 2-year pilot programme is set to start this month.
