The California Energy Commission (CEC) has approved a $1.4 billion investment plan to expand the state’s zero-emission vehicle (ZEV) infrastructure. Over the next four years, the Clean Transportation Program will fund nearly 17,000 new light-duty chargers, advancing California’s goal of 250,000 public chargers, complemented by over 500,000 private home chargers statewide.
The plan also allocates funding for hydrogen refueling stations, truck and bus charging projects, ZEV school buses, and workforce training. At least 50% of the funds will benefit low-income and disadvantaged communities, reinforcing California’s commitment to clean air and climate goals.
ZEVs now make up 26% of new car sales in California, with over 2.1 million sold to date, accounting for 30% of all ZEV sales in the U.S.
