Predator Ridge, a golf resort near Vernon, has become Canada’s first resort community to invest in advanced wildfire detection technology. This summer, it is to deploy a system featuring 100 sensors and five cameras from Vancouver-based SenseNet, to enhance the early detection of wildfires, potentially saving lives and properties by enabling quicker responses. The initiative is part of a two-year pilot project started in August 2022, in collaboration with the City of Vernon and Vernon Fire Rescue. The system’s effectiveness was tested through controlled brush pile burns near the resort, assessing the technology’s responsiveness.
