The City of Edinburgh Council is advancing its smart city programme by setting up a digital urban traffic management system (UTMC) to alleviate congestion and enhance air quality. This UTMC will autonomously adjust traffic signals based on data from various sources, aiding in managing traffic disruptions from major events. Additionally, air quality sensors will be placed at 10 sites to track NO2 and particulate matter. In the housing sector, 500 homes now have humidity, temperature, and CO2 sensors, supporting a city-wide dampness remedy plan. Council Leader Cammy Day highlighted past achievements, including a smart city operations centre, 11,000 sensors in waste bins, and 1,500 environmental sensors in council homes.
