Ficha rolls out AI system to curb waste-sorting errors with €2M funding

Ficha, a French startup developing AI-powered solutions for waste sorting, has secured a €2 million funding round to accelerate its rollout in France and later across Europe.

The startup’s core offering includes Camia, a camera module installed on collection trucks that uses embedded vision and algorithms to detect sorting non-conformities in real time, and Cocon, a sensor device for communal waste rooms that assesses the quality of sorting and provides feedback to users.

The latest €2 million round was led by accelerator and investor Climate Leaders Fast-Track, joined by Neo Founders and Rhône Dauphiné Développement (RDD).

Ficha reports it increased its revenue fivefold between 2023 and 2024 and aims to triple revenue in 2025 by hiring sales teams and extending its product features. The company already counts operators and municipalities such as Suez, Paprec, Sepur, as well as Lyon and Annecy, among its clients.

The move comes amid heightened regulatory pressure: France’s AGEC law imposes stricter traceability and performance requirements on municipal sorting schemes, while rising pollution taxes make incineration and landfill more costly for local authorities.
