The city of Florence recently inaugurated its new Smart City Control Room, set to help the municipality manage and monitor urban mobility and public services. The facility, with a cost of 2.5 million euros, is connected to 1600 cameras and includes a Municipal Police Operations Center that coordinates with various city departments for efficient traffic management and rapid response to incidents like road closures or infrastructure breakdowns. The Control Room is also set to monitor public services like street lighting, WiFi antennas, charging stations and parking meters and handle citizen reports on issues like potholes, drain maintenance, and water leaks. By consolidating and integrating data into a single centrally controlled and coordinated process the city aims to enhance its decision-making capabilities.
