Florida DOT Deploys AI-Driven Traffic System at 2,000 Intersections

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) District Five has rolled out a region-wide, real-time traffic management platform built in partnership with Flow Labs. The system now spans roughly 2,000 intersections in the Orlando metropolitan area.

At its core is the ability to generate validated, real-time turning movement counts, a dataset that until now, agencies typically gathered via short-term manual field studies. The deployment integrates Flow Labs’ products Luminus, Luminus Plus, and Flow RT into FDOT’s existing infrastructure, interfacing directly with the department’s Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS) via APIs.

The project is one of the largest traffic analytics roll-outs in the U.S. to date, giving FDOT continuous, system-wide visibility into traffic flows. Officials indicate the system should enables more proactive signal optimization, congestion mitigation, and safety management across Central Florida.

No public figure for the total investment cost has been disclosed.
