The Swiss town of Gland is launching a six-month pilot program using Cortexia’s Clean City Management AI system to enhance street cleaning efficiency. The municipal cleaning vehicles will be equipped with AI-powered downward-facing cameras that scan road surfaces.
The technology analyzes litter levels in real time while protecting privacy – no personal images are stored, only anonymized cleanliness data. The system detects and categorizes different types of litter — such as cigarette butts, paper, or plastic allowing for a granular, objective measurement of urban cleanliness. Officials say the system will help optimize cleaning schedules, measure the impact of anti-litter campaigns, and reduce unnecessary vehicle emissions by improving route efficiency.
The Cortexia-powered project represents Gland’s latest effort to combine smart technology with environmental sustainability. Town administrators will review the results after the trial period before considering permanent implementation.
