Indra Brings C-V2X Tolling Technology to North Carolina’s I-485

Indra has been awarded a contract by the North Carolina Turnpike Authority to deploy its vehicle-to-everything (C-V2X) tolling solution on the I-485 beltway, marking the first U.S. road to incorporate C-V2X technology for toll payments.

The system should allow connected vehicles to access toll information directly through their onboard systems, eliminating the need for external devices or mobile apps. Indra has also equipped the corridor with its free-flow dynamic toll system, featuring gantry-based technology that charges vehicles automatically without requiring them to slow down.

The project builds on Indra’s previous U.S. trials with Audi and Qualcomm Technologies and is designed to improve interoperability, reduce congestion, and enhance safety through integration with Indra’s 3D LiDAR perception systems.
