Ionna, a North Carolina-based joint venture backed by major automakers, has officially launched its new nationwide EV charging network, aiming to address one of the biggest challenges in the electric vehicle industry: accessible and reliable charging. The network, branded as “Rechargeries” began its rollout with plans to deploy over 1,000 charging bays by the end of the year and 30,000 stations by 2030.
Unlike Tesla’s exclusive Supercharger network, Ionna’s charging infrastructure will be compatible with all EVs, supporting both the Combined Charging System (CCS) and Tesla’s North American Charging Standard (NACS). The company’s Rechargeries will offer fast charging alongside amenities like convenience stores, restrooms, and lounge areas, aiming to replicate the convenience of traditional gas stations.
The initiative, supported by automakers such as BMW, Honda, Mercedes-Benz, and Toyota, seeks to make EV travel more seamless and accessible, particularly for drivers without home charging options.
