The commercial heart of Athens is undergoing a revitalization, driven by a €28 million investment program called Athens Trigono. Funded by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation, this initiative aims to upgrade infrastructure, pedestrianize 110 acres, clean up graffiti, and redesign policing and cleaning services.
Vodafone Innovus, a subsidiary of Vodafone Greece specializing in Internet of Things (IoT) services is taking part of the project by implementing a “Smart Waste Collection” service. This technology equips bin lorries with sensors that notify businesses and residents when the vehicle is nearby. As the lorry approaches, they receive a text message, allowing them to bring out their rubbish directly to the refuse collector, ensuring efficient waste management.
