Italgas to Deploy Advanced ‘H2 Ready’ Smart Meters

Italgas S.p.A. plans to deploy 20,000 units of Nimbus, touted as the world’s most advanced ‘H2 ready’ smart meter. Designed for handling gases, including hydrogen-methane blends, Nimbus features a thermo-mass-based measurement system, seismic and temperature sensors, anti-tampering solutions, and communication modules (NB-IoT, LoRaWAN, mesh technology). With a 15-year lifespan and made from recycled materials, it aims to boost performance, safety, and sustainability, supporting a net-zero economy and decarbonization goals. A wider rollout to Italgas’ 8 million customers is set for the second half of 2025.
