Kalamazoo, Michigan is expanding its downtown recycling network by deploying 26 new Bigbelly smart waste and recycling units this fall, replacing 58 conventional bins.
Funded by the Downtown Economic Growth Authority, the upgrade brings the citywide total of Bigbelly units to 51 and includes repositioning four existing units to high-traffic pedestrian zones. The Bigbelly system uses sensor technology to monitor fill levels, helping reduce overflow, cut down on collection trips, and improve operational efficiency in maintaining cleaner urban spaces.
