The Ayuntamiento de Las Gabias (Grenada) approved the initiation of a public tender for the comprehensive management of its outdoor lighting system, with a base budget of €13 005 313,83 (VAT included) and a duration of 15 years. The contract includes six core service areas, including energy management and supply, maintenance, total-warranty services, renewal works, additional investment in energy efficiency and renewables, and the supply and installation of festive and Christmas lighting. The upgrade aims to reduce annual energy consumption from 1 529 001 kWh to 527 700 kWh, an estimated saving of about 1 002 000 kWh.
The municipality of Las Gabias, a growing suburb in the metropolitan area of Granada, Andalucía, is positioning itself for infrastructure modernisation and sustainability. The decision to bundle lighting, maintenance, energy management and festive lighting in one long-term contract signals a trend among mid-sized municipalities to outsource smart-city and energy-services functions in a single package. By locking in a 15-year horizon, the town aims to secure predictable service levels, capital investment and energy savings over a long timeframe.
The council member for public works, Paloma López, added that the project will improve lighting quality, reduce fault-rates and bring services in line with current regulatory standards.
