The Lombardy Region has officially allocated €25 million through its “Smart Mobility Data Driven” call, aiming to foster innovative solutions in local transportation. The funding, which falls under the Lombardy Plan, will support 14 cutting-edge projects—ranging from intelligent traffic monitoring to custom applications for vulnerable users—across different areas of the region. All selected projects must be completed by June 2026.

Among the standout initiatives is Rapsodia, designed to enhance regional public mobility by collecting and analyzing real-time data covering 94.6% of local public transport in Lombardy. The project will address long-standing IT challenges, boost service planning, and integrate complementary services for more inclusive and eco-friendly travel. Rapsodia also focuses on accessibility, providing real-time updates on safe routes and facilities—like ramps and elevators—for people with disabilities.

Several other municipalities and partners will benefit from these grants. SmartMOV 2030 (funded with €2.5 million) targets heavily trafficked corridors in the Metropolitan City of Milan and the Province of Sondrio, using real-time data to guide daily commuters and tourists toward more efficient travel options. MuoviMI, backed by €1.2 million, will create a “smart road” along Milan’s outer ring road, expanding traffic sensor coverage to better manage the city’s main thoroughfares.

In Lecco, the GeCoDaTS project—worth over €1.5 million—will introduce reversible lanes, dynamic pricing for parking, and real-time traffic monitoring to reduce congestion and environmental impact. Likewise, SAMU in Monza, valued at €2.5 million, will establish a central monitoring system to coordinate traffic lights, parking guidance, and restricted traffic zones, reducing travel times and easing pressure on key intersections.

The projects involve a network of 40 public and private entities, including municipalities, universities, public transport companies, and industry partners—underscoring the region’s broad commitment to reshaping mobility and improving quality of life for residents and visitors alike.
