Madrid is planning to enhance security in its municipalities by using its network of surveillance cameras to monitor vehicles entering and exiting municipalities, an initiative part of a broader ‘smart cities’ platform. In collaboration with local councils, the project is set to focus on mobility, sustainability, and security. Initially, the platform will coordinate existing video surveillance networks to optimize incident response and resource allocation. The aim is to extend video surveillance for better control and monitoring, helping in crime investigation, wildfire surveillance, and searches for missing persons. The project should help authorities to also explore license plate monitoring and mobility studies.
