Massa Marittima has launched a €2 million project to replace traditional streetlights with energy-efficient LED systems, funded through a public-private partnership with energy company Engie. The initiative, spanning 270 days, will cover streets across the city and its outskirts, including Ghirlanda, Niccioleta, and Valpiana.
The upgrade includes IoT-enabled remote monitoring systems to detect faults in real time, improving maintenance efficiency. The LED technology is expected to reduce CO₂ emissions by 80% and lower energy costs.
Under the project financing model, Engie covers the upfront costs, while the municipality repays the investment over 15 years through service fees.
