Meta has partnered with FIDO Tech to address water scarcity in the Colorado River Basin through an AI-powered project in Farmington, New Mexico. Meta is funding the deployment of FIDO’s AI technology to detect and reduce water leakage across 300 kilometers of the water pipeline network in Farmington, New Mexico, over a 10-year period.

The project utilizes FIDO Plus, an AI technology designed to detect and prioritize leaks in water systems in order to improve water resilience and support sustainability goals. This marks the first FIDO Plus initiative in New Mexico, following similar projects in Arizona and Nevada.

Meta’s involvement aligns with its commitment to become water positive by 2030, aiming to return 200% of the water it consumes in high-stress regions. The company has also joined Water United as a partner, alongside founding members such as Microsoft, PepsiCo, and FIDO Tech.

The Colorado River Basin, a critical water source for over 40 million people across seven states, faces significant stress due to overuse and climate challenges. The Water United initiative seeks to unite public and private sectors to scale AI-driven solutions for water conservation and resilience.
